IMG_5390The effective use of personal energy is something we are never taught when we are growing up, yet it can make all the difference both in our personal success as well as the business success in our life.

Emily, during a recent retreat at Epona Ridge, had an opportunity to work with Cierba who is the beautiful lead mare in our herd. Emily wanted to enjoy her life more and felt that if she could understand why she was running into so many brick walls, both in communication at work and at home with her husband, that she could make things better.

She said she has a highly demanding career and a manager that doesn’t seem to respect her ideas or enthusiasm for her job. In fact it is quite the opposite, she said she feels like she is almost ignored and it was getting more irritating by the day – to the point where she was considering quitting her job.

Emily choose to work with Cierba and walked straight up to her but got an unexpected response. She was pushed out-of-the-way as Cierba rudely walked past.

Emily was not new to horses but this kind of connection/communication/learning was different from anything she had experienced before.

All of her natural training techniques she had known were clearly not working. Emily expected Cierba to respond in a certain way. What she was learning was that horses, given a mutually respectful environment, try to communicate in a two-way conversation. These horses were clearly not “trained to obey”. They were making their own choices, even the choice to be present or not.

Horses provide living biofeedback for us if we are clever enough to see it. In any given situation that we present, the horses respond with the energy appropriate to the presenter. All of this is done without the human ego and emotion since the horses offer a clear energy of reflection.

Emily thought about what her approaching energy might have felt like to Cierba, how even though she thought she was friendly in her approach, she came to her with expectations and in the process she stepped over the signs of Cierba’s boundaries giving Cierba no choice but to move away.

“Oh this is so much like work’, she said out loud. Cierba was twenty feet away from Emily at this point and she just stood there. Emily took a deep cleansing breath. She was thinking about her work environment and how she was getting more and more intolerant. She recalled a recent episode at work where she tried to explain to her boss about something that they were doing and how it wasn’t working. Her boss, like Cierba, dismissed Emily with her energy. Emily, reflecting on some of the lessons she had been learning in the retreat, thought about where her vibration was.  She felt the energy of starting off with what was wrong, what wasn’t working and began to understand how that might create bigger boundaries to be raised. Creating that vibration, no matter how enthusiastic you may be about the solution, can close doors.

When Emily approached Cierba with what wasn’t working, she got more of the same response without even realizing how her vibration effected everything. It was a mirror of her work environment all right, but the message was about her own energy.

The most interesting thing happened, after a few moments I noticed Cierba licking a chewing, a sign I always look for because I know it means that something significant has just happened or has been discovered.

Emily shared what she had thought. She said she wondered about how she might change her energy in a way that would be more easily heard and even appreciated. This was the underlying desire to the discomfort she was experiencing. She wanted to be valued for her ideas and effort to help improve the company.

Just as Emily was becoming aware of the deeper message, she shifted from a forward stance to a more relaxed and invitational posture. Cierba softened as well and began to approach Emily from across the arena.

Cierba’s eyes were large and inquisitive this time and her ears were forward and attentive to Emily. She stopped within a foot of her and Cierba dropped her head – Emily reached out and gently touched her.

The vibration in the entire arena seemed to shift.

Learning how to effectively modulate our own non-verbal communication (vibration) helps us find the keys to connecting with mutual awareness and respect, no matter who we are with or where we are in our life process.

Learn more about your personal vibration and the non-verbal energy you are emitting all the time. Gain skills to effectively modulate energy in relationships at home and at work in our upcoming retreat: Your Signature Vibration in March, 2014

We have heard from the great grandmothers who have passed down wisdom for generations that it is time; we have heard it in the ancient teachings of Native Americans and other indigenous peoples. Many of you already know why you are here, we have known about this calling from deep within our hearts for centuries.

Now is the time for the feminine voice of leadership to expand and bring light into our world.

I am a leader in this community because of my experience from a lifetime of seeking to understand and expand the heart’s connection between our human experience and our greater divine nature in connection to all things. This power of the feminine voice of leadership deep within all of us is calling to both man and woman alike.

Many of you know that horses are prey animals while humans are predators, and over the ages we have learned that predators dominate. But who really wins when life is about domination? May I suggest that life is more about co-creation, leadership most definitely, but co-creation at it’s best creates results far beyond any great leader. Maybe we have something to learn from horses about leadership that we never saw until now.

A successful team moves as one, like horses in a herd, but in the business world where survival of the fittest has caused separation, there is distrust at immense cost to businesses everywhere due to high turnover, infighting, and dysfunction. Most managers end up spending their days managing the many problems that occur instead of creating an environment that is set up to self-direct, expand and thrive.

Recently I had the opportunity to be involved in a forum discussion about the frustrations for women in leadership today. When the conversation got going it quickly turned into anger about their work environment, inequality and the lack of personal value that was felt.

There is so much passion and heart innately in women, heart in the commitment to do a great job at being the best we can be as an executive at work, a wife and mother at home, as a caregiver in life even if it leaves us with little time and energy left over for ourselves.

Women are wired differently than most men and we have the capacity for great vision, a compassionate vision that comes from what we Know deep within our souls. If we have the tools to get really clear on that vision and are able to communicate with emotional intelligence and healthy co-creative business skills, the world will change to support that vision.

Being able to create a business through leadership that builds trust and feeds the strengths of each member, you will enable an authentic community based in self-empowerment and personal responsibility among your team. Expanding your personal intuition gives you the needed insight to read non-verbal communication, thereby leading in a way that supports the ebb and flow occurring everyday, and through a set of simple tools you can learn how to gain a vast amount of information that you currently miss through the intellect alone.

After working with over a thousand women through my own business in creating retreats, as well as multiple thousands of corporate teams and leaders over twenty years creating performance improvement for businesses in fortune 500 companies, I have learned what cripples women, both personally and professionally in organizations and how, if we really want to make a difference and create a world that thrives, we can make the change we truly want and need to see.

I understand these truths:

1) To co-facilitate with the Universe is a humbling place to align life and career.

2) When given the proper tools and an empowering vibrational space to expand our Be-ingness, each of us finds our divine connection that holds the secrets and gifts to create the life and career that brings us inspiration and joy.

3) There is a short path and a long path to thriving and finding personal fulfillment in this world, either way you will get there if that is your desire. I have no attachment to anyone’s path but my own.

4) Most of us were never taught how to modulate or effectively use our own energy and can either end up overstepping, causing separation and distrust, or getting lost in the shuffle and aggression of others. This is what causes dysfunction and ultimately dis-ease of an individual or an organization.

5) When you learn how to effectively work with your own energy and vibration of others, you greatly improve all your relationships at home and at work. From there positive energy ripples out into the world and it is contagious.

6) The gifts that the horses and I bring are but one part of a greater journey to awakening the divine light of the leader that is within us all. As a horse and human facilitating team, we teach at a cellular level, organic with each client, and from there the sky is the limit.

I set out to paint my little barn this week and was confronted with so many options that it was almost overwhelming. How many shades of color can there possibly be?

I love the color purple but after painting half of a wall I didn’t love it all over the barn! As it turned out a small splash of purple was just the right amount and actually made the barn a lot more interesting.

Although painting the barn was physically challenging the bigger challenge came with an opportunity for growth. I learned about hanging in there and being open to possibility. Eventually I figured out what I needed to know about creating change in a very simple way. But the change reflected a much bigger picture. It was about the resistance that comes up when we play small and give up when things don’t work out easily.

Have you ever felt like leaving things the way they are because it is just too much trouble to change? Our fears and vulnerabilities can jump right up in our face.

If I had stopped with the frustration of not getting it right the first time I would have ended up with a half painted Easter egg purple barn!

Making the decision to finally start may feel like a difficult step – but that isn’t the end of the journey that may just turn out to be a glorious opportunity. There are always adjustments along the way and if you aren’t careful about your thoughts, you may just send yourself down the energetic drain.

What if I make the wrong decision?

Can I really do this?

This isn’t easy… Is this a sign that I shouldn’t keep trying?

What if this doesn’t work?

What if no one likes it?

I don’t want to have to start over again!

I don’t have the time to waste.

I have already invested my energy in the way things are.

What if it turns out bad?

What if…

I used to wonder why people stayed in the life or work they were in if it didn’t make them happy.

A coach explained that people get stuck playing small. She said they are never able to see themselves as the powerful people they really are because they are caught up in fear and quit at the first sign of resistance.

The key to squashing the fear is the courage to keep your eye and your energy focused on your goal. When resistance comes up, consider the choice to stay open to the possibilities that you may not have considered before.

Vulnerabilities and frustrations actually provide new opportunities to learn and to be open to new and even better ideas.

When you give up or focus on the fear, you have effectively shut down the genius part of you that thinks “outside of the box”. When we hang in there and allow for the possibility of new perspectives, we open ourselves to a greater well-being and inspiration will begin to flow once again.

Sarah came to me a year ago, wanting to just relax and find a sense of rejuvenation.  She led a hectic life at home with a more-than-full-time focus at work.

Sarah had not taken many vacations. In her mind, sitting and doing nothing was not fulfilling, and most of the time she spent her vacations checking in with work and slipping in emails to the office.

After meeting Sarah, I could feel her desire for more in her life, as if she wasn’t sure if this was all there is, or if she could make a change somehow.  She wasn’t angry or depressed. She had just been on a steady diet of living with tension and being “on call” for the majority of her waking hours.

Like many women, Sarah was extremely capable and was a multi-tasking expert.  She had so much to do, explaining she was the first one in to work in the morning and the last one to leave at night.  “There just aren’t enough hours in the day,” she said.  When she really opened to what she was looking for, she realized that she wasn’t enjoying life, that she really wanted.  She wanted to know how she could find contentment in her life.

Sarah chose an alpha gelding named Zorro to work with in her personal session.  He was beautiful and very attentive to her.  She said she felt a connection to him right away, even though she had not spent any time with horses in her life. She always thought they were so majestic.

Sarah walked into the arena and Zorro came over to her.  After greeting her, he stood next to her side.  She reached up, petting his back, and he leaned into her hand for a deeper scratch.  “My dog does this,” she said.  “He loves a good scratch in places he can’t reach.”  Then Zorro stepped forward a few inches and she stopped.  “What’s he doing?” she asked, and I explained that he was communicating with her, giving her a message.  “Oh, he just wants more scratches, but in this place now.”

She continued to scratch his back and he leaned into her pressure, enjoying the deep tissue message.  But her arm was beginning to tire so she stopped and stepped back.  He immediately turned completely around to the other side and stepped up once again, lining up his side very close in front of her.  She had to take a step backwards.  “He just wants more,” she told me.

So Sarah started in on the other side, until her arm tired once again and she stopped. He stepped another step forward, placing his hind end right in front of her this time, but she stepped to the side.  He put his ears back and walked away from her and she felt sure she had hurt his feelings.  Then she stood there for a moment.

“It’s never enough, is it?” she said it more for herself than for me.  Sarah began explaining  what she had just experienced.  She said that it was the same thing she gets at work.  No matter how much she does, it was never enough, there was always more.  She said that at first she wanted the connection to this horse, and he gave it to her, but then it stopped feeling good.

Sarah had never learned how to feel when her boundaries were being crossed, even when she was the one crossing them, which was a pretty advanced awareness.  She had not set healthy boundaries so that she could have mutually healthy relationships at home or at work.  Throughout the rest of the retreat, she learned about her own core energy and how to adjust her energetic body with biofeedback from her greatest teacher, Zorro. He was amazingly consistent as he helped her learn.

He taught her, on the most subtle levels, how it feels when she was getting out of balance, and she knew it the moment it happened instead missing the initial signs.  She said it was like a switch had been turned on within her.

In that moment, Zorro completely relaxed and gently stood next to her.  This time he was respectfully close, but no longer pushing on her or asking for something she didn’t want to give.  Zorro released a heavy sigh.

Before she left, Sarah said she felt a deep sense of peace and gratitude, and that she had learned so much, on such a deep level…  she would never forget how it feels.  She knew that she could make that change she was looking for, now that she was aware from within herself.

I know it’s only November, and New Year’s resolutions are  usually contemplated in the days or moments just before the New Year, but this year –  maybe it’s time for a change!

Did you know that most people don’t keep their New Year’s resolutions past the first few weeks, and the majority fail in six months?

Many of us are looking for change, for something more in our lives, but are just not sure how to find what’s right for us.

Research has shown that most people don’t keep New Year’s resolutions. In fact, we have found that they can produce the opposite effect, when we fall short of those resolutions during the first months of the year.

Change starts with a simple, yet powerful, epiphany that comes from a very deep and personal place inside of us: “I just can’t continue down this same road any longer.” said JimTaylor, Ph.D. Psychology Today.

Making shifts in our lives isn’t as hard as we have made it out to be.  We were never taught how to energetically line up with what want we really want in our lives, and in many cases, we are just reacting to life and getting caught up in the struggle.

This coming year things can be different!

You can learn how to find your inner calling by taking the steps to learn how to listen within.  By doing this, you will find that it brings clarity, peace and joy in the now and for your lifetime ahead!  See Sacred Choices and Choosing Joy!

I’ve heard from so many women that have studied Abraham-Hicks, Wayne Dyer, and Louise Hay. They understand the concepts, but the personal integration can be hard.

Following your heart, and finding the life you are meant to live, is one of the greatest journeys we can have. It’s about learning how to hear your own inner wisdom, and having the courage to follow it, no matter what anyone else has to say.

See the video above to hear more about this journey within…

Are you feeling lost?

Are you feeling stuck in the experience of being:

  • bored
  • boxed in
  • uninspired
  • alone
  • or even angry…

Many people have told me that they are feeling lost in their lives, waking up uninspired and moving through their days in a blur.

We are searching for our inner spark to be re-ignited, so we may change our path from the sense of being lost, to finding our inner peace, inspiration and joy.

There seems to be a growing desire to find something more in the life we have come here to live, and many of us are finding ourselves discontented. And from what I am learning, that is really a good thing!

This discontent is OUR wake up call!

A growing discomfort is the way that your body calls to you for change.

What if I told you that you have the keys to finding this inner spark within you, and that it is just waiting for you to get quiet enough to listen for your own guidance?

You may say, “But that seems too easy, I would have figured that out already… in fact, I already know that, I just can’t seem to do it!”

In our everyday lives, we tend to be focused on what isn’t working, we do this in an effort to find improvement.  Many times we are reacting to our daily experience and worrying so much we forget we are still manifesting… but manifesting in the wrong direction!

Maybe you have never learned how to support yourself through your focus, or if you have learned, you may have found that you weren’t getting the results you hoped for… but you have no idea why.

What if you had a problem with your horse?  Wouldn’t you try to find a solution instead of just ignoring it, and hoping it would go away?  How about if you were a golfer and your game was off.  Wouldn’t you practice over and over until you got it right, or seek out help and instruction to improve your game?

So what have you done to invest in yourself and your own growth?  What have you done to get support in expanding your life in the direction of joy?

It takes practice so that you can align with what you want in your life.

So if you are not in love with your life, now is the time to create a new habit: The habit of paying attention to how you feel, so that you may find all that you have been looking for and align your life, so that you will experience yourself flowing with inspiration!

It’s time to stop wasting any part of your life, it’s time to step up and live a more joyous YOU!
